Misplaced, Displaced and Far From Home

Misplaced, Displaced and Far From Home

This IEF Funded drama project was to raise awareness and develop understanding of the global Refugee Crisis, giving the pupils an opportunity to explore a very complex and real issue through the medium of drama, film and music.

Pupils from Mr Gardner’s P5 class and  Mr Milligan’s Year 11 GCSE Drama Students from  Shimna Integrated devised a piece of drama with Theatre Maker Andrea Grimason and Film Maker Brian Milligan. This collaboration took the form of weekly workshops and sharing sessions in Shimna Integrated College and film making on location at The Harbour in Newcastle. The final performance was staged on 5 May in Shimna College and the culmination of all the engagement and commitment of the young people to such a complicated issue was reflected in the compassionate and thought provoking performance they created. This film was shot as part of the theatre making process and was part of the final performance. Our young people have nurtured their citizenship skills and community awareness throughout this process and we are extremely proud of what they have achieved.
